A Product Trio at Float is made up of three key team members:

 

Designer: Focuses on user experience and interaction.

 

Product Manager: Concentrates on product strategy, market fit, and customer needs.

 

Engineer: Ensures technical feasibility and implementation.

 

Trios collaborate on insights into our customer needs and behaviors gained from UX research and data gathered across the organization.

 

You will have the opportunity to design a best-in-class experience that empowers teams to work better. Product Designers at Float work all the way from the initial idea to the full finished product release as our Product Trios collaboratively define and execute their roadmap informed by our company-wide OKRs.

 

On our current journey from startup to scale-up, you’ll help shape our design team and influence the role of design in the wider company context.

 

As Float is scaling and growing, the capacity for design input and outputs working across the Product Trios is also growing. While supporting a Product Trio, you’ll join as a member of the Design Team headed up by Cam, our Director of Design.

 

In addition to Cam, the current Design team includes two other Product Designers and a Visual Designer.

 

We’re looking for a proactive full-stack Product Designer excited about balancing user needs with business requirements.

 

What You will be Responsible for:

As a Product Designer, you will incrementally take ownership of the design function inside your dedicated Product Trio.

 

Early on, you will be supported to:

  • Own and drive assigned product feature design from early idea to engineering handoff and VQA.
  • Contribute and maintain the Float design system.
  • Help evolve the Float design language and alignment with product+marketing design styles and systems.
  • Support the design team with flexibility where needed.

 

Once you are more settled, we expect that you:

  • Take ownership of the design function as part of a cross-functional trio.
  • Work with product and engineering to ideate and influence the product OKR’s and roadmap of trio projects.
  • Maintain, update, and develop new Float Design System and documentation processes.
  • With little oversight, deliver polished design solutions to engineering and see-through VQA process right through to successful project launch.

 

What You will Bring:

  • A love for your craft and an eagerness to continue growing into the role.
  • The ability to make and communicate rational solutions across varied projects.
  • Product feature design experience with a solid balance of UX and visual design to work end-to-end from spec to wireframes to polished design.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively communicate the design rationale of solutions and tradeoffs in line with project requirements and key results.
  • Solid skills in prototyping and interaction design.
  • Experience translating and delivering design requirements in collaboration with product, research, and engineering.
  • Experience in design systems contribution, maintenance, and documentation (Supernova experience a plus).
  • Motivated by feedback and thrives in the opportunity to learn new skills and advance in the role.

 

As a fully remote team, we look for people comfortable with asynchronous communication as the default for all of our roles.

 

This means you have previous remote experience and are comfortable using tools like Slack, Loom, and Linear to communicate as needed.

 

Don’t worry — you will have significant deep work time since we have few meetings.

Hiring Process For This Role:

You’ll find useful information about our interview process and what it’s like to join our global team on the Float careers page. The hiring process for this role looks like this:

 

Initial First Meet (25 min): You'll meet with Mary, Talent Manager, to discuss your interest in the role and review your questions about working at Float.

 

Design Interview (45 min): You’ll meet with Cam, Director of Design, and Jill, Product Designer, to discuss your skill set and Design's role at Float.

 

Trio Interview (45 min): You’ll meet with Fabio, Front-End Designer, and Ryan, Product Manager, to dive deeper into your skills and experience and meet the members of the Trio you’ll be joining.

 

Founder Interview (30 min): You’ll meet with Glenn, Float’s CEO, to get to know you and see if you have the potential to be a great addition to the team.
